Naturopathy
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of healing, which seeks to promote health by stimulating and supporting the body’s inherent power to regain harmony and balance.
The philosophy of naturopathic medicine is based upon three basic principles:
1. Each individual possesses the power to heal itself through its internal vitality and intelligence.
2. Disease is a manifestation of the vital force applying itself to the removal of obstructions to the normal functioning of organs and tissues.
3. Disease affects the whole person - body, mind and spirit, and not simply an isolated organ or system.
The focus of any naturopathic treatment is to increase the vitality of the individual, and to remove any obstructions, chemical, physical or psychological, which may be interfering with the normal functioning and internal harmony of the organs and tissues. The aim is to restore and promote the body’s own functional ability through the usage of gentle but powerful methods which are tailored to each individual. During this process the role of the Naturopath is that of a guide or teacher more than a therapist, with the patient taking an active and responsible part in their treatment.
Therapies used within the naturopathic assessment and treatment plan include:
Dietary therapy • Hydrotherapy • Counseling • Breathing exercises • Iridology • Lymphatic drainage • Therapeutic massage • Flower essences Tissue salts • Emotrance • EFT • Sound therapy
Naturopaths regularly treat patients with the following conditions:
Fatigue • Stress related ailments • Digestive complaints • Allergies • Skin disorders • Respiratory conditions • Female problems/hormonal imbalance • Recurrent infections • General aches and pains • Anxiety • Depression
What happens during a naturopathic consultation?
Your initial consultation will consist of a complete health intake interview and a standard physical examination. During your first visit, it is important for your naturopath to take into account all of your symptoms or concerns, whether they are physical, emotional or mental, before tailoring an individual treatment plan for you.
Your follow up consultations will include the careful monitoring of your progress and the administering of physical treatments, prescription of natural remedies and counseling as required.
